One place that I couldn’t wait to use for this project is Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe, Kent. As soon as Halloween ends, miraculously on November 1st, Bluewater is covered in Christmas decorations, inside and out. Last night, I went to the centre with my camera and started photographing away.
Outside, they cover trees with fairy lights and always set up these huge reindeer light statues on the roundabouts around the centre. They also have smaller versions of these light-up reindeers that they place in various locations around the site. They’re always so amazing to see up and look particularly spectacular at night when they are turned on. I once saw them being constructed too, as I was on a very early bus that made a stop at the centre and witnessed a pick-up truck carrying the head of one of the reindeers to the roundabout it would be situated one.
Below are the images that I took of the reindeers and outside of Bluewater at night:
This is another picture that I took on the same night, inside of the shopping centre that I quite like:
This is of the Sblended Milkshakes store that is not only closed for the night but has very recently been closed for good, seized by the owners for reasons not open to the public in fact. One of the people that I was with went over and was reading the sign and I decided to shoot the moment as the shop itself is a bit of novelty with it being shaped as a giant milkshake cup and having someone standing in front of it’s closed bars adds a bit of extra character in my opinion. I'm considering this image for my final set unless I take a better one that'll replace it.
I will need to narrow down the images of the reindeers more to select only one or one big one and one little one and overall Bluewater has provided lots of images for me to use in my Portrait Element project part 1: light and space.
