For this assignment, my classmates and I will only have one day to shoot and send the images in real time, with midnight being the submission deadline. This will be the first project of its kind for me.
The place is Plymouth, the date is Monday 13th of February, the limit is five pictures and the subject is anything in Plymouth that interests us.
Time is of the essence here so planning will be key. We’ve been advised to research Plymouth as extensively as possible before going, so that when we arrive we can set off immediately to explore and photograph with ideas in mind. Images of the train station and taxi rank won’t cut it. The five final images will have to be submitted online to Cartel Photos, so I will need to set up an account with them and it’s recommended that we send a test image to ensure it is working. I’ll definitely be following that little piece of advice since it sounds like it would be just my luck that my upload doesn’t work. Part of the assignment will also be to fill in IPTC caption fields, which is giving the image context.
Although the images will be submitted online to Cartel Photos by midnight of the day of the shoot, they will also be submitted again in the physical form of photographic prints in a print box for May 2nd, fully captioned and the right size.
I have already arranged for a friend, who lives in Plymouth, to show me around for that date, taking me to some of the best spots they know of so that I can take my photos. This assignment will be very interesting for me because of the time constraints and I will have to carefully manage my time, making sure I have enough to get back, narrow down and edit, fill in all the required online data and submit my images.
