After a miscommunication and mishap that resulted in me not being able to shoot the content for a different project that I had intended to, I ended up shooting some unplanned content for the Relationship Project.
Niall Lester is a dog warden in Kent by day and an animal rescuer by day and night. He has turned his home and another piece of land he owns into a safe space for rescued animals. His back garden has been dug-up and turned into a mini farm, equipped with pigs, chickens and turkeys, and half of his house is owned by the dogs whom live with him. All the animals that live on his home property are his pets and I took pictures of him with Noris the pig and Ethel the chihuahua.
I want each of my five pictures for the Relationship Project to be of a different person and their pet/s so I will have to decide on whether it’ll be Niall and Noris or Niall and Ethel whom make the final selection, but I’m probably going to rely on my classes group ‘crits' for help with that. Once decided which pet to use, it’ll be which image better shows the relationship.
Both the images with Noris and with Ethel show what I want to show and also have that unusual/contrast element within them that I was aiming for. In the images with Noris the pig, Noris himself is that element, as a pet pig is not exactly usual, and the background also adds to this element, as there are chickens roaming in the background. The contrasting element in the images with Ethel the chihuahua, I captured the tattoos on Niall’s hands as he cradles tiny Ethel. The image of this man with his tattoos and the tiny dog contrast one another, as this toughness and gentleness mix in in this image.
Despite the shoot being unplanned and being disappointed that I was unable to shoot my intended project, I’m pleased with how these images turned out and that one will be used in my Relationship Project.
